The Ronin family consists of three models. All of the Ronin
speakers look quite alike from the outside and share similar design
fundamentals, drivers and goals. Each uses a unique way of achieving these
goals, suitable to different listening tastes, system designs, and required
flexibility. All three use the basic
design foundations unique to Nomad Audio. The most straightforward in terms of design is simply dubbed "The Ronin", it was the original and uses very high quality passive crossover components, including mills resistors, ClarityCap SA series capacitors, and 12 AWG copper foil inductors. The "Ronin A" is the active, or amplified version of the Ronin. Everything remains the same, except the passive crossover for the woofer is removed, and in its place is a 500W amplifier to solely power the 10" woofer. The result is an impedance curve that never dips below 6 ohms, and a much easier load on the amplifier. During testing with lower powered amplifiers, 6dB more output was available during very dynamic musical selections, if these dynamics were mainly in the bass range, 8 to 10dB of additional headroom was available. The woofer amplifier allows user control of the level, phase, parametric EQ, and subsonic filtering of the woofer. This is implemented through a plate amplifier fit on the lower rear pannel of the enclosure The "Ronin D" is the digital version of the Ronin. It uses technology from DEQX to perform time and phase linear filtering before any amplification. The result is the theoretically perfect point source, uniform power response loudspeaker. It is not only produces perfect transients on axis, but off-axis as well due to the coincident driver alignment. Proper tonal balance is ensured off axis as well with the waveguide loading of the tweeter and dipolar radiation pattern of the midrange. All of the Ronin Models Share the below specifications. Dimensions: 42” Tall, 11.25” Wide, 14” Deep
Sensitivity: 87.5dB / W Impedance: Ronin - 3.5 Ohms Minimum, 4 Ohms Nominal Ronin A - 6.2 Ohms Minimum, 8 Ohms Nominal Ronin D - Woofer - 3.8 Ohms Minimum (88dB), Midrange - 7.8 Ohms Minimum (89dB), Tweeter - 6 Ohms Minimum(91dB) |

The importance of this measurement can not be over-emphasized.
A plot like this will tell you more about how a speaker will sound than any
on-axis plot. Traditional speakers should have this type of measurement
done in both the horizontal and vertical planes due to their non-coincident
driver arrangements. There is an excellent example of this in the
Technical Articles section. In fact,
this is nearly perfect between 200 and 2.5Khz, you will not find this ANYWHERE
else. Above and below, it is very good, exceeding most anything on the
market today. Keep in mind that this is an unsmoothed, un-doctored completely
real set of frequency response curves. Most manufacturers smooth their frequency
response curve to look more benign. |
